What the label says:

Bricolage started playing live in some of Glasgow’s seamier environs at the tail-end of 2005, perfecting their louche and stylish Postcard / Vic Godard - influenced uplifting pop over the early months of 2006. By the summer of 2006, live dates had seen them play live with an eclectic array of artists (including Fire Engines, Long Blondes, Sun Ra’s Arkestra), which helped build up a following.A debut 7” single on white vinyl, Footsteps, was released on esteemed Lanarkshire subversive pop label Creeping Bent in June 2006. This record received widespread support in the press and on radio, which resulted in considerable record company interest.

Bricolage began 2007 by releasing another 7” single (Looting Takes the Waiting Out of Wanting), this time on the Fantastic Plastic Records. 2007 saw lots of touring, including dates with Franz Ferdinand, 1990s, and Vic Godard & the Subway Sect. A third Bricolage 7” single (The Waltzers), was released on Memphis Industries in Sept 2007.

Bricolage release their eponymous debut album on Creeping Bent on Oct 27th 2008. The album has been produced by former Altered Images mainstay Stephen Lironi, and features 12 songs that emanate a cinematic and literary glow that illuminates late night tales Glasgow’s West End.

Emmy The Great - "We Almost Had a Baby"

"Turns out I missed Emmy The Great at Nice'n'Sleazy when she played in support of Diane Cluck in June. It was the night Holland whupped France in Euro 2008 and I just couldn't tear myself from the couch for fear of missing even a minute of their insanely pretty football. After hearing her upcoming single "We Almost Had A Baby" on Mark Radcliffe's show this week I realise now that I might've made a bum decision. Melodically irresistible, it ripples along just beautifully. Backing vocals swoop and swoon until the sparkles come in at which point it becomes altogether more magical. As of a few minutes ago her myspace page suggested that it had been listened to 1,547 times. I'm pretty sure at least 1,000 of them were by me."

limited edition (750) 7" with pull out poster. just how close can a floundering relationship come to unplanned permanence, and what is the last dice role in its interminable power struggle? 'we almost had a baby' is the delicately beguiling new single from emmy the great, on close harbour. "our guitarist euan says our songs are passive aggressive - people think we're harmless unless they're really listening". with its unassuming introduction, an amber swell of 60s girl group melancholia, and a startling denouement; emmy's new single fits her guitarist's synopsis entirely. it also proves indicative of the savage observations and stark admissions that comprise their forthcoming debut album. cloaked in arrangements of disarming simplicity, emmy the great's 'first love' is set for release in january. it arrives self-funded and self-produced, emmy's answer to the pigeonholers and industry insiders who would have her painted differently; resisting the overtures of label bosses and managers, proposed collaborations with hit factory songwriters, and insightful appeals to 'put a few more choruses in'. produced in collaboration with guitarist euan hinshelwood, and pianist tom rogerson, it was recorded at the earlies' lovably dilapidated studios in rural lancashire. "it seemed the right place to go" explains emmy, "this little room in the middle of nowhere, with borrowed equipment and no lightbulbs, was the perfect antithesis to all my previous bad experiences with producers. the earlies were really patient and let us mess around as much as we wanted with arrangements." the album that emerged is a deft and determined debut. its title may evoke the first, exquisite pangs of youthful mutual desire but in a typically emmy-esque subversion, the name is actually taken from samuel beckett's depressing novella about a violently misogynistic lover. 'first love' is a hard-won innocence-to-experience saga about a destructive but ultimately character-forming real-life relationship, in which the songwriting process was her final act of catharsis.

Lucksmiths - "Good Light" de "First Frost"

The new record which has been christened First Frost was apparently recorded in a run down shack in Tasmania, where they had to fight with mice to get all of the songs recorded. You can read all about their recording adventures down in Tasmania from Marty Donald’s recording diary. Chris Townend, who has worked with Portishead and former label mate Darren Hanlon, is did the honors of producing the album.

Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman

BOB STANLEY"Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell. It's got everything in it: mysterious lyrics, deeply romantic, incredible arrangement... and instrumentation where you can't actually work out what it is, which is always great. You get that on a lot of Beach Boys records as well, where you have no clue, even 40 years later, what is actually making the sound you're listening to. Which is probably as close as you get to when you're a kid, and you first hear "Heart of Glass" or "I Want to Hold Your Hand", and you just hear this amazing noise, you don't even know that it's musical instruments doing it.

WIKIPEDIA

Jimmy Webb was inspired to write the lyrics when he saw a solitary lineman in rural northern Oklahoma. The lyric describes the longing that a lonely telephone or electric power lineman feels for an absent lover who he imagines he can hear "singing in the wire" that he is working on. Such a sonic vibration is commonly induced by wind blowing across small conductors.

LYRIC
I am a lineman for the county and I drive the main roadSearchin' in the sun for another overloadI hear you singin' in the wire, I can hear you through the whineAnd the Wichita Lineman is still on the lineI know I need a small vacation but it don't look like rainAnd if it snows that stretch down south won't ever stand the strainAnd I need you more than want you, and I want you for all timeAnd the Wichita Lineman is still on the lineAnd I need you more than want you, and I want you for all timeAnd the Wichita Lineman is still on the line

Sólo para fans de The Bats y The Magick Heads: Minisnap

Dos hits: "A Walk in the Dark" y "Crooked Mile"

Minisnap's "Bounce Around" is the first release by members of The Bats without lead singer/songwriter Robert Scott. Kay Woodward takes the lead with her strong but delicate vocals and her own turn at song writing. The same rhythm section of The Bats is there so the comparisons are hard not to make. The folksy Velvet Underground sound keeps chugging along with Kaye's vocals leading the way.

Minisnap features the songwriting skills of Kaye Woodward (vocals, guitar) along with fellow Bats, Paul Kean (bass, guitar) and Malcolm Grant (drums) plus Marcus Winstanley from The Undercurrents on guitar. It isn’t often that a member of one of your favorite bands steps from supporting to lead role and completely bowls you over. Kaye does so with her angelic voice and heart filled songs.

HMV - MY INSPIRATION 100

CD 1 has two new B-Sides: Night Vision and Destroy The Building

CD 2 has extra mixes by Sarah’s recent collaborator Mark Brown
(This mix CD is not eligible for the chart so if you feel compelled to see us back
in the top 40 erm… why not buy Cd1 or the 7” too!)

The Ultra Limited 7” vinyl has new B-Side: River

ITunes and 7Digital will be offering a download only demo version of Burnt Out Car.

New Order - "1963"

This song is about, according to the Substance song book, a theory that JFK was trying to get rid of his wife the day he got shot, and he got the bullet instead of her. "

Y según Wikipedia:

Según wikipedia:

"According to the band's lyricist, Bernard Sumner, the song is about the JFK assassination, which occurred in 1963. In the song, Sumner sings from the point of view of Jackie Kennedy, and theorises that John F. Kennedy (a devout Catholic for whom divorce was unthinkable) paid the mobster Jack Ruby to arrange for a hitman to take out his wife so that he could continue his relationship with actress Marilyn Monroe.[citation needed] It further theorises that Monroe committed suicide when she found out that the hired gun, Lee Harvey Oswald, had hit the wrong target. Oswald was, according to Sumner, then in turn assassinated by Ruby for causing his hitman business to go bust.

Sumner's theory is unlikely to be intended seriously, given that Marilyn Monroe died in 1962, over a year before the assassination took place.

The producer Stephen Hague has referred to the song as "the only song about domestic violence you can dance to"

Menuda sorpresa.

"1963" además, tiene esta curiosa historia: "In 1987, it was supposed to be a single, but Stephen Hague suggested to flip sides and True Faith got released instead. New Order decided to re-release it as a single in 1995."

Jenny Lewis & Elvis Costello - "Carpetbaggers"

The Legends»Seconds away«CD/Single
November 5

I need noise now, so this new single sounds like someone drilling a whole in your head. In a pleasant way that is. It’s called "Seconds away" and is about the wonders of tryptizol. The B-side, "Over and over" is actually one of those sad love songs I had promised myself never to write again. But it was out of my hands; life forced me to write it. Sorry about that... Pallers has done a truly wonderful remix of it. It might actually beat the original, which is both a very good thing and slightly depressing at the same time.” Johan [aka The Legends]."Seconds away" is released on November 5. Pre-order here.
